An explosion at the Grand Riviera Princess hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico over the weekend left 6 people dead and 15 others injured. The explosion occurred at 9 a.m. in the lobby of one of about a dozen buildings that makeup the hotel.
Officials said the explosion was likely caused by a buildup of natural gas from a nearby swamp. The explosion is under investigation. The dead included five Canadian tourists and two hotel employees. At least two Canadians and two U.S. citizens are among the injured.
Debris from the blast was scattered at least 50 yards from the hotel.
