November 16, 2010, Quincy, MA… Readers of
Consumer Reports magazine chose the Ford Fusion and the EcoBoost-powered Ford Flex as the most reliable vehicles in their categories, according to the 2010 Annual Auto Survey published by the magazine. Results from 1.3 million reader surveys were used to calculate the ratings.
The
Ford Fusion beat out the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry to take the top spot in family sedan reliability. Overall, Ford and Lincoln placed 10th on
Consumer Reports’ list for predicted reliability, the highest finish among U.S. automakers. Across its entire model lineup, 90% of Ford’s vehicles had “average” reliability or higher, according to the survey.
“This is another major accomplishment for the Ford Fusion, which already holds the title of
Motor Trend’s 2010 Car of the Year,” said Michael Quirk, general manager of Quirk Ford, a Massachusetts
Ford dealer. “What’s really significant about this survey is that it reflects the experience of actual owners, not the automotive press. These are regular people who are driving the Fusion every day and finding it to be one of the best-made cars on the road.”
Positive reviews and a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have provided a sales boost for the new 2011 Ford Fusion. The sedan led all Ford cars in October sales with a year-over-year sales gain of 29.1% and 17,362 units sold, the best October in the model’s five-year history. For the month, Ford’s year-over-year sales grew by 19.2%.
Greater
Boston Ford shoppers who choose the 2011 Fusion Hybrid will get, at 41 miles per gallon, some of the best city mileage available in any sedan, reducing the stress of traffic jams on the wallet. Standard safety features in the family-friendly sedan include electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring and first- and second-row side-curtain airbags. Parents who might let teens behind the wheel of the family car should consider the optional MyKey system, which allows top speeds to be set and, with the Belt-Minder System, notifies drivers to fasten their seat belts and mutes the car’s audio system until they do.
“It offers the safety features a family needs, as well as one of the more affordable hybrid engines, but this is not the typical, sluggish family car,” Quirk said. “The Fusion has a very robust powertrain, and it’s great fun to drive in any season. It also has the room to seat everyone comfortably, without the bulk that makes some cars impossible to park on Boston’s narrow streets.”
