Monday Night Football Scores: Philip Rivers Leads San Diego Chargers to Big Win Over Favre and the NY Jets

Philip Rivers was 19/25 passing for 250 yards and three touchdowns, LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 67 yards and a pair of TDs and Antonio Cromartie had two interceptions including one returned for 52 yards for a touchdown as the San Diego Chargers (1-2) knocked off Brett Favre and the New York Jets (1-2) 48-29 on Monday Night Football.

Things didn’t start so well for the Chargers as Rivers was picked off early and David Barrett returned it 25 yards for a TD but San Diego got on the board with a field goal from Nate Kaeding and then Rivers tossed a one-yard touchdown to Mike Tolbert for a 10-7 first quarter lead.

That lead was extended to 17-7 in the second quarter when Cromartie picked off Favre and went 52-yards for the score but the Jets climbed back to within 17-14 on their next possession when Laveranues Coles scored on a 3-yard pass from Favre.

Rivers wasted little time answering as he found Chris Chambers on a 27-yard touchdown pass and then added a 6-yard Touchdown pass to Antonio Gates to give San Diego a 31-14 lead at the break.

Tomlinson extended the lead to 38-14 early in the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run but Favre put the Jets in the endzone with a 4-yard toss to Chansi Stuckey but their two-point attempt failed. After Jay Feely booted a 34-yard field goal NY was within 38-23 with just over eight minutes left in the game.

Once again the Chargers turned to Tomlinson and the powerful back delivered with a game sealing 2-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes left in the game.

The Chargers defense came up big on Monday night as they held the Jets running game to 41 yards in the game and forced four turnovers.
