Mavericks End Hornets' Perfect Record
New Orleans Hornets Lose First Game
The New Orleans Hornets were the final contenders for a perfect regular season record going into Monday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. With an 8-0 record, they were the only team in the NBA that had yet to lose a game. But Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, and and Jason Terry helped to change all of that.
On Monday night, Chris Paul and the Hornets lost their first game of the season by losing 95-98 against the Mavs. The Hornets are now 8-1 for the season, the Mavs 7-2.
Terry led both teams in scoring with 26 points. Nowitzki came in at a close second with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Kidd led the Mavs in assists and steals, with 6 and 1, respectively.
On the New Orleans side, Paul unsurprisingly led his team with 22 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. Emeka Okafor led the Hornets in rebounds and blocks, with 14 and 3, respectively.
Terry went only 2 of 11 from the field in the first half, but he kept at it and went 7 for 8 in the second half.
"I was missing wide-open shots, ones that I practice," said Terry. "I'm a shooter, I'm going to keep shooting."
Interestingly, these two teams will face again on Wednesday.
"It's special because it's like a mini-playoff series," Terry said. "And
we held serve by winning at home, and now we go on the road. That's
kind of fun, this early in the season to have something like that."
