Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido 2011

The Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido is one of the most celebrated festivals in Japan. The festival takes place in the winter on Hokkaido. In winter, the island of Hokkaido becomes a beautiful winter wonderland with ample snow and plenty to do for all you winter enthusiasts.

 

The Sapporo Snow Festival has taken place since the 50's. Artists from around the world shape gigantic, extraordinary designs in ice and snow. Past designs include well known landmarks, well known public figures, and of course in true Japanese style…cartoon characters.

Other communities as well as the ski lodges have their own winter snow and ice exhibits, most of which are within a days drive of Sapporo. The 2011 Sapporo Snow Festival will take place February 7-13.
