The second-best October in the
Nissan Altima's history helped the Japanese automaker achieve a 15.2% increase in year-over-year sales. Nissan sold 18,978 Altimas during October, putting the car on a pace to eclipse 200,000 sales by November 30.
The
Nissan Juke, pegged by some critics as the car with the year’s most controversial design, turned in a strong performance in its first full month of availability, selling 2,103 units. Juke sales exceeded Nissan’s expectations for its unique, turbocharged crossover.
“This has been a very strong year for Nissan,” said Paul Butts, general manager of Massachusetts
Nissan dealer Quirk Nissan. “Customers who want a Japanese car for reliability and fuel efficiency are giving Nissan a look. What they’re finding is that Nissan offers excellent quality and value, as well as a very strong safety record.”
In the 18 years since the Nissan Altima first went on sale, the American-made midsize sedan has quietly become the flagship model for Nissan North America. With surprising power under the hood, sport-tuned performance and an impressive list of standard features, the Altima reaches beyond the dull tendencies of its class to reward its owners with a spirited driving experience and a dash of luxury.
For 2011, Nissan is offering two gas-powered engines and a hybrid, all of which stress fuel efficiency. Base-level Altima 2.5 and upgraded 2.5 S models feature a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine with 175 horsepower, 180 pound-feet of torque and EPA fuel ratings of 23 mpg/city and 32 mpg/highway. Those who want more power can opt for the Altima 3.5 SR, which is fast off the line with a V-6 engine that generates 270 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but is also a little harder on the fuel at 20 mpg/city and 27 mpg/highway.
Greater
Boston Nissan drivers who battle Central Artery traffic may find the hybrid to be the best value, with its EPA ratings of 33 miles per gallon both in the city and on the highway. With 198 net horsepower from its 4-cylinder engine and 148-kilowatt electric motor, the Altima Hybrid provides plenty of boost when it gets the chance to run.
All Altimas offer front-wheel drive, a critical asset in snowy conditions. Standard safety equipment on all models includes dual-stage front airbags, side-curtain airbags, electronic traction control, active head restraints and vehicle dynamic control, which helps drivers avoid dangerous skids.
Standard features in all models include some items that are costly extras on other sedans, including air conditioning, push-button ignition, power windows and door locks, keyless entry and cruise control.
“This is a serious sedan with a playful side,” Butts said. “It has everything that people want in a passenger vehicle, including legroom in the rear seats, a generous trunk and a smooth ride. But what makes it fun is the way it responds on the open road. Give the Altima a little running room and its sporty side takes over, which can make everyday driving a joy.”
