Prince William and Kate Middleton will start thinking about having children soon.

The 28-year-old royal and Kate, also 28 - who announced their engagement yesterday (16.11.10) - revealed they both want to have kids and will begin planning a family after their wedding which is set to take place in spring or summer next year.

William said: “I think we’ll take it one step at a time. We’ll sort of get over the marriage first and then maybe look at the kids. But obviously we want a family so we’ll have to start thinking about that.”

Kate – who works for her parents’ party planning business – is from a tight-knit family of mother Carole, father Michael and younger siblings Pippa and James and said she hopes she and second-in-line to the throne William will be as close to their own children.

The future princess said: “It’s very important to me. And I hope we will be able to have a happy family ourselves. They’ve been great over the years – helping me with difficult times. They are very, very dear to me.”

While the couple are planning their own family, William revealed he felt “lucky” to have been welcomed by Kate’s parents during the course of their relationship.

He said in an interview with ITV News: “Kate’s got a very, very close family. I get on really well with them and I’m very lucky that they’ve been so supportive. Mike and Carole have been really loving and caring and really fun and have been really welcoming towards me, so I’ve felt really a part of the family.”
