Matthew Morrison is not a “good friend or boyfriend”.

The ‘Glee’ actor – who plays teacher Will Schuester in the musical drama – is currently single but is not interested in dating because he is so committed to his career.

He said: “I’m not a good friend right now. I’m not a good boyfriend. It’s not that I’m selfish. I’m just focused.”

Although he doesn’t think he would make a good boyfriend now, Matthew, 32, admits he used to be much more sociable when he was a younger actor working in stage productions on New York’s Broadway.

He especially enjoyed acting on the attention he received from girls.

He told Details magazine: “I definitely hooked up with a lot of girls when I was a young guy on Broadway. It was exciting. Very joyous and free.”

The TV star hates receiving attention for his looks, but knows he would not have progressed so far in his career if he wasn’t handsome.

He admitted: “I’m not comfortable with the idea of my sex appeal, but I know in my job I have to use it. I wish I could say I got to this point in my career based on my talent, but I don’t think that’s true.”

Matthew also revealed he feels like a “teacher” to his younger co-stars and has learned to keep a lower profile after witnessing the antics of some people in the series.

He said: “I am a teacher to them. I’ve taken a few under my wing. I don’t want to say they idolise me, but … I find myself learning a lot from the set. I do look at stuff people on the show are doing, and I don’t judge them, but I question it. I say to myself, ‘Keep quiet.’ Fame … it’s like a handgun – in the wrong hands, it’s dangerous.”
