Susan McHaney of National Consulting & Investigations, Inc. (NCI) has been in the Private Investigation field since 1986 where she trained under Private Investigator Mitchel L. West of Jack West Investigations, Inc., who is now a licensed Attorney in San Luis Obispo County. Attorney West told us that “McHaney was a natural, with all the qualities that make a great investigator. She always found a way to complete her assignments.”
McHaney’s Business Manager and longtime friend, Dwane Richardson, originally from Burbank, California and now residing in Brigham City, UT, assists her on her day to day business decisions. Although Richardson’s passion is flying commercial jets, he is dedicated to his role with NCI. Richardson states McHaney “is very quick and thorough with her investigations, thrives and excels at what she does”. Richardson’s daughter, Elizabeth Richardson has been training in the Private Investigation field with McHaney. He leaves all the investigation work to Susan, and Case Managers, Stephanie Moore and Mario Serna, and the NCI Investigators.
McHaney is a consultant to the U S Government, Private Investigation Firms across the world, as well as Law Firms, Insurance Companies and large Corporations listed in the Fortune 500. With McHaney’s paralegal background, she makes recommendations and produces quality evidence, with a quick turnaround time, that assists the client and its legal counsel to a successful settlement or judgment.
McHaney gives credit and recognition to both West and Richardson, along with many of her colleagues, for her successful career in the Private Investigation industry. McHaney says every year our insurance premiums are increasing because there are so many fraudulent claims being filed by individuals and it generally takes anywhere from 1 to 5 years before a case is settled.
Currently McHaney and National Consulting & Investigations, Inc. are educating and marketing its services to the self-insured businesses across the country, who hires Third Party Administrators (TPAs) to handle its claims. McHaney states, “It’s unfortunate that many of the claims submitted to the TPAs are investigated by a designated Investigation firm, which the TPA sometimes refers to as its in-house Investigators.” The in-house Investigators are retained at a bare minimum and the quality of work is usually less than satisfactory. McHaney further stated, “the self-insured companies need to know that if the claims are not being handled sufficiently, that the self-insured businesses are entitled to use its own “preferred investigation agency” to investigate its claims. If the TPA does not agree to the preferred Investigation agency, the self-insured can take its business to another TPA who will. McHaney believes there are thousands of claims a year being pushed through the system without quality investigations and with the poor economy today, there needs to be thorough investigations so businesses can survive.
McHaney says there are many Investigation agencies throughout the USA that provide quality work and are cost effective. It’s not about how many cases can be pushed through the system, it’s about prosecuting the fraudulent claims so the averagebusiness owner can continue staying in operation knowing that its claims are being handled sufficiently and insurance premiums are minimized. For more information about this story or any other investigations, National Consulting & Investigations, Inc. can be contacted at its toll free number, 1-888-885-9808 or by visiting its website, www.nciusa.org.
