Cop Killer to be Executed in Georgia Tuesday

Troy Davis has been on Georgia’s death row for nearly 20 years after being convicted of killing off-duty police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989.

Davis, 39, has maintained his innocence throughout and has picked up the support of former President Jimmy Carter and South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu, both of whom believe there is enough evidence to suggest doubt.

On Monday the Georgia Supreme Court rejected a plea from Davis to delay the execution and now he has only the U.S. Supreme Court as a final option. Several protests have been organized in an attempt to halt the execution but with a stay the Davis will be put to death the state prison in Jackson, Ga.
