Robert Wagner Admits to Affair with Actress Barbara Stanwyck in New Memoir

Robert Wagner revealed that he had an affair with actress Barbara Stanwyck in his upcoming memoir, "Pieces of My Heart," according to reports Tuesday.

Wagner, whose marriage to actress Natalie Wood was widely known, described the four-year romance with Stanwyck, who starred in "Stella Dallas" and "Double Indemnity."

Wagner, 78, and Stanwyck met on the set of "Titanic" in 1953 when he was 22 years old and she was 45 and recently divorced from actor Robert Taylor.

Few people knew of the romance except for a few close friends, such as Nancy Sinatra, the first wife of Frank Sinatra; and Spencer Tracy, whose bond with Katharine Hepburn was another well-kept Hollywood secret.

"I would say she gave me self-esteem," writes Wagner, whose successful TV series included "It Takes a Thief" and "Hart to Hart," but the relationship didn't last. They were both too busy in their careers and the age difference was too great. Stanwyck eventually ended things.

"I would always have been Mr. Stanwyck," Wagner writes, "and we both knew it."

Wagner was married four times, twice to Natalie Wood. Wagner and Wood were married from 1957-1962 when they got divorced. In 1972, they were remarried until her shocking drowning in 1981. Wagner and Wood had one daughter together, Courtney Brooke, and one daughter each prior to their marriage, according to their IMDB bio.
