Foster Wheeler Ltd. (NASDAQ:FWLT) added 0.48% to $27.39. Recently, the company said that its net income for the third quarter fell to $51.7 million, or 41 cents per share, from $90 million, or 71 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.

Excluding one-time items, earnings of 40 cents per share fell short of the 51 cents per share that analysts had on average forecast, according to Thomson Reuters.

Over the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $20.33-$35.01. At today`s closing market price, the market capitalization of the company stood at $3.37 billion.

Emerson Electric Co. (NYSE:EMR) slid 0.51% to $54.35. This month, the company said that its net earnings rose 48 percent to $749 million, or 98 cents per share, in the fiscal fourth quarter ended September 30, compared with $506 million, or 67 cents per share a year earlier.

Excluding items, Thomson Reuters calculates that Emerson earned 81 cents per share from continuing operations, 3 cents more than the average estimate.

Revenue rose 14 percent to $5.84 billion, compared with Wall Street forecasts for sales of $5.89 billion.

The company forecast total 2011 sales will rise 12 percent to 15 percent and operating profit margins above 2010's level.

Mohawk Industries, Inc. (NYSE:MHK) lost 0.40% and closed at $51.97. The company this month reported that its third-quarter net income increased to $51.09 million or $0.74 per share from $34.35 million or $0.50 per share last year.

Net sales decreased to $1.31 billion from $1.38 billion last year. Adjusted net sales decreased to $1.33 billion from $1.38 billion a year ago. Adjusted net earnings increased to $51.13 million or $0.74 per share from $44.20 million or $0.64 per share last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $0.77 per share on revenue of $1.40 billion for the quarter. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items.        

Over the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $39.84-$66.93.
