John McCain Suspends Presidential Campaign, Calls on Barack Obama to Join Him
Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, has suspended his campaign, beginning Thursday night.
McCain has suspended his campaign in order to return to Congress to help pass his legislation about the Wall Street bailout crisis. He has called for Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, to do the same in order to save the U.S. economy.
McCain also urged for the Commission on Presidential Debates to postpone the first presidential debate between he and Obama, which is scheduled for Friday in Oxford, MS, and support his decision.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Board Ben Bernanke has spoken to the Senate and House in order to get the government to pass a bill that would cost Americans $700 billion.
McCain predicted that President Bush, Republicans and Democrats will not pass the legislation needed to save the economy. He held a press conference Wednesday morning, imploring Congress to work in bipartisanship in order to pass the proposal for the economy.
McCain said that he called Obama and informed him of his decision and urged him to join him in his efforts to fix the financial crisis.
