Felix Hernandez Wins Cy Young Award

"This confirms the Cy Young is an award not only for the pitcher with the most wins but the most dominant," said Hernandez, who beat other popular AL pitchers like David Price and C.C. Sabathia, both of whom had much better win-loss ratios this past season.
"I feel like they got it right," said Price. "Felix, I thought he deserved it, even though he didn't have a lot of wins. You can't really control all that. You can't control the offense and the hitters and stuff like that."
Hernandez led the league with a 2.27 ERA. He also led the league in innings (249 2/3), was second in strikeouts (232), and held AL opponents to the lowest batting average (.212).
"The numbers he put up -- those were pretty ridiculous numbers outside of the won-loss column," added Price. "I feel as if Felix was on a different team -- if he was on the Yankees or something like that -- he's going to win quite a few ballgames."
"This is the first of many. Now I have to work even harder because I'm the best pitcher in the American League," said Hernandez, who claims that he started crying when he heard the news.
Hernandez is now the second Seattle pitcher to win the Cy Young Award (after Randy Johnson) and the second Venezuelan player to win the award (after Johan Santana). Further, his 13 wins are the fewest ever by an AL Cy Young winner.
