England’s Prime Minister David Cameron said the country may make Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding day a “bank holiday,” or a public holiday.
Speaking to the Commons Liason Committee Thursday night, Cameron said the couple’s wedding should be “a day of celebration” for the country. “If it's in the week it would be a very good idea to have a bank holiday,” he said. “And even if it's at the weekend there would be a great temptation to have a bank holiday.”
A spokesman for the bride-and-groom-to-be said the couple is in favor of the idea. "Prince William and Catherine Middleton are grateful for the Prime Minister's comments, they also support the idea of a Bank Holiday but recognize this is very much a matter for the Government,” the rep said.
Prince William and Kate have yet to decide on a date and location for the ceremony. The couple is considering Westminster Abbey. The church is where the funeral of Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, was held in 1997.
