Thiago Jotta da Silva, a Brazilian soccer player, was tortured and murdered, allegedly by assassins hired by his ex-girlfriend, according to media reports.
Da Silva, 25, died in a hospital last night in Rio de Janeiro. He was pronounced dead just six days after he was mortally shot by three men in an attack on a soccer field in a suburb of Rio. One of the three men is a member of the military police and all are friends of Viana's.
Alyne Padula, his ex-girlfriend, and her aunt Marcia Padula Viana, were arrested on Sept. 21 for possible involvement in the homicide. They were taken into custody as they are believed to instigators of the crime, and accused of hiring the assassins to kill da Silva.
Da Silva was practicing on a field in a small suburb outside of Brazil last Thursday when he was approached by three men, according to Goal.com. The men handcuffed him, then beat and tortured him. When he tried to flee, da Silva was shot three times.
Before he passed away, Da Silva told the police that he had fallen into a trap last Thursday evening, shortly after ending the relationship with his girlfriend. The police have yet to decipher what da Silva meant by "trap," but they are investigating it.
