Pirates Seize Ukrainian Ship Off Coast of Somalia, at least 21 Hostages Taken

Pirates have seized a Ukrainian cargo ship passing through the waters off the coast of Somalia and are now holding at least 21 hostages.

The ship, sailing under a Belize flag, was carrying about 30 T-72 tanks and parts for armored vehicles and heading to the Kenyan port of Mombasa when it was hijacked.

According to reports the Ukrainian ship was surrounded by at least three speedboats packed with armed pirates. It is believed the ship was taken to the semi-autonomous region of Puntland where piracy has thrived.
