Vikings Coach Brad Childress Fired
Turmoil and losses spell end for Childress in Minnesota
The Minnesota Vikings have fired their coach of the last five years. Team owner Zygi Wilf is expected to announce that Brad Childress is no longer going to be leading the Vikings this season around four o'clock this afternoon.
The Vikings have been in turmoil all season falling only a game short of the Super Bowl last season. A unimpressive 3-7 record is only the tip of the iceberg for a team that has been in the news plenty this year.
The ongoing saga of quarterback Brett Favre's career has taken many headlines away from the team's on-field play, as well as the return, and prompt dismissal, of receiver Randy Moss. After Moss's deparutre, more stories came to light about Childress losing the locker room. He clashed with Percy Harvin at practice, was insulted in the news by anonymous players and most recently criticized starting quarterback Favre for poor decision making.
The most recent loss to the division rival Green Bay Packers was the nail in the coffin for Childress's tenure with the team. The final score of 31-3 gave Childress his biggest margin of defeat with the Vikings and pushed his overall record to 40-37. Clearly he had lost the team and Wilf felt it was time for him to move on.
Minnesota defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will take over the team for the rest of the season.
