Quirk Auto Dealers Team with Toys for Tots this Holiday Season

Massachusetts and New Hampshire Dealerships Collecting Toys for Charity

November 23, 2010, Braintree, MA… Boston Celtics’ center Shaquille O’Neal, famed for both his size and his generosity, recently paid a visit to a Toys “R” Us in Framingham to buy presents for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, but the future Hall of Famer isn’t the only one giving back during the holidays. This holiday season marks the third straight year that Quirk Automotive’s 13 Massachusetts and New Hampshire car dealerships are working with Toys for Tots to collect toys for the less fortunate.

This year’s collection, participated in by Quirk employees, customers and friends of the United States Marine Corps, will officially continue until December 17th. During that time, Quirk auto dealerships in Massachusetts and New Hampshire will serve as drop-off points for local residents who want to support Toys for Tots.

Owner Dan Quirk takes a special pride in the efforts of his employees and those in the surrounding communities to support the Marines’ worthy cause.

“For as long as I can remember, Toys for Tots has been doing an amazing job ensuring that less-fortunate children across the country have a memorable Christmas,” he said. “These last couple of years I’ve been so impressed with the huge pile of toys we’ve collected in our dealer showrooms, and I’m excited to see how we’ll top our past efforts this year.”

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation was started in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks and his fellow Los Angeles Marine reservists decided to collect and then distribute new and used toys to thousands of needy children in the area. The Toys for Tots logo, still in use today, was designed in 1948 by Walt Disney, and since its inception the non-profit charity has delivered more than 400 million toys. Quirk’s Toys for Tots collection initially just involved employees, but when word spread the dealerships opened their doors to customers and other community members who wanted to donate to the organization.

“We value the communities we do business in, and Toys for Tots provides a fantastic opportunity for our new and used auto dealers in Braintree, Quincy and Manchester to reach out during the holidays,” said Quirk. “In these tough economic times, there are a lot of families who are feeling the financial strain that comes with holiday shopping, and we encourage both our customers and local residents to help us out in our efforts to assist those in need.”
