Narconon Taking Effective Approach To Handle Addiction During Holidays

Narconon Arrowhead drug rehab organization releases new public service announcements to get message out about addiction and help during the holiday season.

Canadian, Oklahoma – Narconon Arrowhead, one of the world’s largest and most successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers in the world have recently released a series of public service announcements for the holiday season. Because the holidays’ can be an especially difficult time for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, the facility felt a need to offer help to those addicted and support to families dealing with a  loved one with substance abuse issues.

Derry Hallmark, Senior Director for Expansion at Narconon Arrowhead explains that Narconon has historically seen an increase in drug and alcohol abuse during the holiday season, particularly over the last few years with the current prescription drug abuse trends. The long-term inpatient treatment program has treated hundreds of addicts while operating in the state of Oklahoma over the last 15 years.

The public service announcements feature recovered addicts and family members who share their own true stories of addiction and recovery and what they experienced during the holiday season while abusing drugs or alcohol. Hallmark explains that the message Narconon wants to get out during the holidays is one that is uplifting; that anyone struggling with addiction can get and stay sober. And that recovery for a lifetime is possible with the right type of drug and alcohol treatment.

According to the According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 23.2 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use and only 10% of them received it, based on the last annual report. In addition, NIDA reports that that approximately 48 million people-about 20 percent of the U.S. population-aged 12 or older had used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons in their lifetimes.

With so many struggling with substance abuse issues, help is needed now more than ever.
