Jay-Z Says He Shot His Brother When He (Jay-Z) Was Just 12

When he was just twelve years old, Jay-Z (who was then surely known by his birth name, Shawn Carter) shot his own brother. That is what Jay-Z claimed in a recent interview with The Guardian.

Now 40 years old, Jay-Z says that he shot his own brother after his drug-addicted brother stole a ring from Shawn in order to pay for drugs.

Jay-Z said in the interview that, after the violent incident, "I thought my life was over. I thought I’d go to jail forever. It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified."

According to a report from thefablife.com, "his brother recovered from the injury, never reporting the incident to police and even apologizing to Shawn in the hospital for the effects of his addition."

The revealing interview marks the first time Jay-Z opened up about the traumatic childhood incident, although Carter did rap about the incident on a song called "You Must Love Me," which contains the following line, "Saw the devil in your eyes, high off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed."
