Chris Turner threw for 174 yards and a touchdown, Darrius Heyward-Bey set up a touchdown on a 76-yard run and the Maryland Terrapins (4-1) forced three turnovers to shock the #20 Clemson Tigers (3-2) 20-17 in Death Valley on Saturday.
Clemson looked to have things in control in the first half as C.J. Spiller scored on a 35-yard touchdown run and James Davis added a 38-yard touchdown run as the Tigers built a 17-6 lead by halftime.
It was Heyward-Bey’s 76-yard run on a reverse that brought the Terrapins back into the game in the third quarter as Turner found Torrey Smith on a 6-yard TD toss moments later to get Maryland to within 17-13. Turner then brought the Terrapins down the field in the fourth quarter and after hitting Danny Oquendo on a 21-yard pass that set up the go-ahead one-yard touchdown run from Da'Rel Scott.
Maryland will travel to Virginia next week while Clemson takes on Wake Forest on Oct. 9.
