Jevan Snead threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another, Dexter McCluster picked up 59 yards rushing and a TD, Shay Hodge had 133 yards receiving and a score and the Mississippi Rebels (3-2) blocked an extra point late in the fourth quarter to stun the #4 Florida Gators (3-1) 31-30 on Saturday in Gainesville..
Snead provided the first points of the game with a one-yard run in the first quarter but that would be the only points the Rebels would score in the opening half as the Gators put 17 points on the board in the second quarter and led 17-7 at the break.
Mississippi responded with their own 17 point quarter in the third as Joshua Shene kicked a 33-yard field goal, Snead hit Cordera Eason on an 18-yard TD and McCluster busted a 40-yard touchdown run to give the Rebels a 24-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Tim Tebow didn’t waste much time getting the gators back into the endzone as he scored his second rushing TD of the game on a one-yard keeper to tie the score 24-24 but the Rebels weren’t ready to give up and on a 3rd and 7 on their own 14-yard-line Snead hooked up with Hodge on an 86 yard touchdown pass with 5:26 left on the clock.
Florida answered the score with a drive of their own and Tebow got the Gators down to the 15-yard-line and Percy Harvin did the rest as he found the endzone and it looked like Florida would tie the game but Mississippi blocked the extra point to keep a one-point edge.
After the Rebels punted on their next possession the Gators had one more chance and after driving down to the Mississippi 32 yard-line Florida faced a 4th and 1 but Tebow was stopped on a keeper to end the game.
Mississippi will host South Carolina next week while Florida travels to Arkansas.
