Jake Delhomme was 20/29 passing for 294 yards and two touchdowns, Muhsin Muhammad had 147 yards receiving and a TD and Steve Smith finished with 96 yards and a score on six receptions as the Carolina Panthers (3-1) beat the Atlanta Falcons (2-2) 24-9 on Sunday.
Carolina jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Jonathan Stewart 8-yard touchdown run but the Flacons managed to get a pair of field goals to cut their deficit to 7-6. Delhomme then found Steve Smith on a 56-yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers some breathing room but Jason Elam kicked his third field goal of the half to pull within 14-9 at the half.
Carolina pushed their lead to 17-9 in the third quarter on a John Kasay 44-yard field goal and then Delhomme hit Muhammad on a 36-yard touchdown pass in the fourth to seal the game.
