Ehud Olmert Says Israel Must Withdraw from Occupied Land if it Wants Peace

Israel’s outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that if Israel wants ongoing peace they must withdraw from the majority of land they occupied in 1967.

Olmert’s declaration that Israel must abandon parts of East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights in order to secure lasting peace with Palestinians and Syria was met with anger by several inside the country as former Meretz chairman Yossi Beilin declaring, “Olmert has committed the unforgivable sin of revealing his true stance on Israel's national interest just when he has nothing left to lose.”

Olmert resigned earlier this month but remains as a caretaker until his party elects a new prime minister. Olmert is facing several corruption charges, all of which he denies.
