Anne Hathaway admits falling love can be one “worst parts of being alive”.

The actress – who stars in new movie ‘Love and Other Drugs’ with Jake Gyllenhaal, in which they play lovers – believes in the mantra only love can break your heart because if a relationship goes wrong it is completely devastating.

She said: “Most people want love and the journey sometimes is really rocky to find it. It’s an exploration and an adventure always. It’s also one of the most wonderful parts of being alive and one of the worst parts of being alive when it doesn’t go well.

“The movie (‘Love and Other Drugs’) is about what it takes to let love in. Love is hard work and it’s scary, and it’s all totally worth it.”

Hathaway experience the pain that love can cause when her ex-boyfriend, Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to cheating investors out of millions of dollars.

The 28-year-old Hollywood star appears in several sex scenes with Gyllenhaal in ‘Love and Other Drugs’ and admits she enjoyed getting nude in front of the cameras, even though the crew got to see things that “jiggled”.

She added to the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper: “I hear that we (Anne and Jake) are brave. Is it brave because we were laughing while we were naked and things jiggled? Maybe so.”
