National League Playoffs Schedule: Chicago Cubs Host Los Angeles Dodgers, Game One Wednesday
The Chicago Cubs have been on track for the post season for most of the year, dominating the National League Central and winning the division by 7.5-games over the Milwaukee Brewers and in the process earning the best record in the NL at 97-64. As for the Los Angeles Dodgers, it was the late-season trade for Manny Ramirez that put them on track for the post season and their 84-78 record was good enough to top the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West.
After locking up the NL Central the Cubs rested some of their arms and appeared to limp to the finish line, dropping four of their last six games but they should be ready for their opener. Los Angeles has been in a dog-fight all year and it wasn’t until the final week that they actually punched their ticket following a Diamondbacks loss.
Ryan Dempster will get the start for the Cubs and after posting a 17-6 record in the regular season including a win over the Dodgers back in May and a no-decision June. Los Angeles will send Derek Lowe out to the hill and he has won his last four decisions but earned a no-decision in his last two starts. He had a win and a no-decision against the Cubs earlier this year.
Chicago won the season series with the Dodgers 5-2, including a three-game sweep at home, but they haven’t faced each other since June 8 and all five L.A. losses were by two-runs or less.
Game time for the series opener between the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
