High School Football Player in Philadelphia Dies after Contracting Drug-Resistant Staph Infection

A 17-year-old high school football player in Philadelphia has died after contracting a drug-resistant staph infection known as methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus, more commonly referred to as MRSA.

Test results revealed on Friday that Saalen Jones, a senior at Martin Luther King High School, had the contagious germ in his body but it was not known how he contracted it.

Two other football players that have lesions are being tested and the school is being cleaned to avoid any type of outbreak.

Jones died on Tuesday.
