Stampede at Hindu Temple in India Leaves at least 168 Dead

At last 168 people were crushed to death and several more were left seriously injured on Tuesday after a wall near a Hindu temple in India collapsed sending thousands of worshippers running.

The stampede occurred in the northwestern state of Rajasthan as worshippers were preparing to celebrate the Hindu festival of Navaratra.

Thousands of people had made the trek up to the Chamunda Devi temple, which sits atop a hill that overlooks the city, when a wall collapsed near the temple sending thousands to rush from the scene and crush those making their way up the hill.
