Bollywood on Strike as Actors and Technicians Demand Higher Pay, Better Conditions

Bollywood is standing still as several thousand actors and technicians have shut down India’s film and television industry with a strike, demanding higher pay and better working conditions.

Union representatives have argued that many of their members have not been paid in months and the long hours and poor working conditions have not been addressed by producers.

Much like the Hollywood strike that gripped the entertainment industry in the United States earlier this year the hardest hit will be television, and more specifically reality shows. Without light technicians and camera crews the filming of such shows is impossible. Several daily shows have already been cancelled and until the strike is resolved it is unlikely they will return to air.

Unions have attempted to contact film producers but have received little or no response to the issues.
