2008 NL Playoffs Schedule: Philadelphia Phillies Battle Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 Wednesday
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies will begin Game 1 of their series in the National League playoffs on Wednesday at 3pm.
The Phillies won the NL East and have the second-best record in the NL. Their offense, which is led by MVP candidate Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Pat Burrell, is one of the best in the MLB, ranking in the top 10 in every major offensive category.
Howard leads the NL in home runs (48) and RBIs (146). Utley leads the team with 113 runs and a .915 OPS, but is second with a .292 batting average. He hit 33 home runs and had 104 RBIs. Burrell hit .250 in the regular season with 33 home runs with 86 RBIs.
2007 NL MVP Jimmy Rollins did not have nearly the offensive season that he had last season, but he remains one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball.
The starting pitchers will be Phillies ace Cole Hamels (14-10, 3.09 ERA, 190 SOs) and Brewers newcomer Yovani Gallardo.
The Brewers are led by MVP candidate Ryan Braun, who leads Milwaukee in every major offensive category: .285, 37 HRs, 106 RBIs, 92 runs, and .888 OPS.
