Several items belonging to Steve Fossett have been founded by a pair of hikers along a California trail in Mammoth Lakes, not far from the Nevada border.
Among the items found were two cards issued by the Federal Aviation Administration with Fossett’s name on them as well as a jacket and a small amount of cash.
Fossett, who disappeared shortly after taking off from a Nevada air strip in a light plane last September, was declared legally dead in February after searchers never found his body or wreckage from his plane.
The 63-year-old Fossett was an avid aviator as well as sailor and adventurer who set numerous world records in several sports. Among his accomplishments in flight were five nonstop circumnavigations of the Earth as well as long-distance solo flights in a balloon.
Fossett funded all of his projects with a fortune he amassed in the financial services industry.
