2008 NL Playoffs Schedule: Chicago Cubs Take on LA Dodgers in Game 1 Wednesday
The Cubs won the NL East and have the best record in the NL. They have arguably the best offense in the National League, topping five categories and ranking in the top five in all but one of the remaining ones.
The Cubs have five players with 20+ home runs, but the best overall offensive player is Alfonso Soriano, who leads the team with 29 home runs. Aramis Ramirez leads with 111 RBIs. Geovany Soto (.285 BA, 23 HR, 86 RBIs) is having one of the greatest rookie seasons for a catcher in history.
If the Cubs win, it will be their first in 100 years, ending the longest title drought of any major North American professional sports team.
The Dodgers were revitalized with the trade of Manny Ramirez, who leads the team with a .396 batting average since his arrival in LA. Ramirez has hit 17 home runs and 53 RBIs in just 53 games.
The Dodgers have the best ERA in the NL and are led by Chad Billingsley (16-10, 3.14 ERA, 201 SOs).
The starting pitchers will be Dodgers' Derek Lowe (14-11, 3.24 ERA, 147 SOs) and Cubs' Ryan Dempster, who is 14-3 at home. Dempster is 17-6 overall with a 2.96 ERA and 187 SOs.
