American League Playoff Schedule for Thursday: Tampa Bay Rays Open Series Chicago White Sox

The 2008 Major League Baseball playoffs continue today with three games on the slate including the first ever playoff game for the Tampa Bay Rays who will be hosting the Chicago White Sox.

 

Tampa will be sending James Shields (14-8 3.56 ERA) to the hill while Chicago will counter with Javier Vazquez (12-16 4.67 ERA). The Rays won the season series 6-4 including a 4-3 record at home. Shields faced the White Sox once this year but had a no-decision after pitching six innings and allowing one run. Vazquez dropped both his decisions against the Rays this year.

 

For the White Sox, their looking to win their fourth consecutive game against a different opponent as they beat the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers to force a playoff game with the Minnesota Twins, which they won to earn their playoff ticket. Now they face a Tampa Bay club that posted the best home record in the MLB this year at 57-24 while Chicago’s 35-46 record on the road is the worst among MLB playoff clubs.

 

Game time for the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox is set for 2:30 p.m. ET
