A hostage situation at Marinette High School in northeast Wisconsin ended Monday with all hostages being released unharmed. Police say a male student carrying two weapons took a teacher and 23 students hostage just before school ended at 3:10 p.m. Principal Corry Lambie checked on the classroom because no one had seen the students or the teacher. Lambie called police around 3:48 p.m. after discovering the situation.
Around 7:40 p.m. the suspect released 5 hostages because they needed to use the bathroom. Police entered the room at 8:03 p.m. after the teen fired his weapon. Upon police entering the room, the suspect shot himself. Marinette, Wisconsin, Police Chief Jeff Skorik says the suspect is being treated for a “potentially life-threatening” wound and is in serious condition. The location of the gunshot wound was not revealed.
During the 5 hour ordeal the suspect fired his weapons at least 5 times, but police believe he did not aim at any of his hostages as the bullets were found in a desk and audio-visual equipment. Police recovered a .22-caliber semi-automatic gun, a 9-millimeter semi-automatic gun and a duffel bag containing more bullets.
Marinette High School was closed Tuesday.
