College Football Schedule: Florida State Seminoles Battles Miami Hurricanes in Heated Rivalry on Saturday

The Florida State Seminoles will take on Miami Hurricanes in a once-heated rivalry on Saturday at 3:30pm EST on ABC.

The FSU-Miami rivalry was one of the most heated rivalries from the 1980s to the 2000s, but has died down a little bit in recent years. From 1983-2002, Florida State and Miami have combined for seven national championships and 15 national championship game appearances.

The rivalry became more important when Miami entered the ACC in 2004, making this non-conference rivalry into a division match-up.

The Seminoles recently fell out of the AP Top 25 with a loss to then-No. 18 Wake Forest, 12-3, but bounced back with a convincing 39-21 win against Colorado.

Sophomore quarterback Christian Ponder has struggled in the last two games for FSU, throwing four interceptions and no touchdowns. However, the rushing game, led by Antone Smith, has led the Florida State offense.

However, FSU's bread-and-butter this year has been their ferocious defense. They are top 10 in the nation in five defensive categories and 14th in passing defense.

Unlike previous teams, this Florida State is not led by big names, but a collective of solid, talented players who work cohesively.

Miami is in a similar situation, but their freshmen have been receiving a lot of attention. Miami is equipped with the "Baby Bulls", eight true freshmen from Miami Northwestern H.S., who won the USA Today Super 25 national high school football championship. Booker T. Washington H.S., who was ranked #8 last season, also sent three players to "The U" this year.

Miami is rebuilding with two-year coach Randy Shannon, but still has legitimate talent. However, the Hurricanes are ranked at the bottom in pass efficiency defense and kickoff returns in the nation.

The Hurricanes offense needs a lot of work, but shows promise with Robert Marve at the helm and freshman Jacory Harris, a "Baby Bull," backing him up. Graig Cooper is another bright spot at running back with 291 yards.
