Video: "The View" Co-Stars Involved in Heated Discussion about Sarah Palin
The cast on "The View" had yet another spirited conversation about politics when they spoke about Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday.
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar showed a clip from Palin's interview with Katie Couric on CBS Nightly News in which Palin cracked a joke on her opponent, Sen. Joe Biden. "I've been hearing about his Senate speeches since I was in, like, second grade," said Palin.
Behar then called Palin "dumb" and "disingenuous" for calling Biden old when her running mate Sen. John McCain is the oldest non-incumbent presidential candidate in U.S. history.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the show's conservative voice, immediately got defensive to which Barbara Walters asked Hasselbeck, "Do you have to defend her every single time?"
Goldberg said that no one is qualified to be president except someone who has been in that position before, but cited that she was fearful of Palin because "she is one heartbeat away from being President and she knows nothing about it".
"I'm so glad you're on the program," said Walters, "The View" creator, to Hasselbeck. "We love you on the program. You are the counterpoint, but every single day, you never say 'Maybe there's another point."
Hasselbeck counteracted, saying that she was the first person to say that Sen. Barack Obama did a great job in his Democratic National Convention speech in 2004.
Walters then asked Hasselbeck to give her three reasons why she thinks Palin would make a very good President. Hasselbeck immediately responded, "Tell me why Barack Obama is qualified. Name me three tangible things he has done," said Hasselbeck to her "View" co-stars.
When she finally answered the question, she said "She ran the state of Alaska. She is an expert in terms of energy. She has been in charge of the National Guard in a time of war."
Sherri Shepherd then told Hasselbeck that Palin did not make a decision in regards to the National Guard.
