AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #10 South Florida Bulls Fall at Home to Pittsburgh Panthers

LeSean McCoy rushed for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Bill Stull threw for 228 yards and a TD and the Pittsburgh Panthers (4-1) answered a late touchdown from #10 South Florida (5-1) with a touchdown of their own to beat the Bulls 26-21 in Tampa.

South Florida put the first points of the game on the board after Charlton Sinclair recovered a blocked punt and went 26 yards for a touchdown but Stull pulled the Panthers even with a 52-yard TD pass to Jonathan Baldwin on Pitt’s next possession.

The Panthers moved in front 14-7 late in the second quarter when McCoy ran one in from 6-yards out and just before the end of the half Conor Lee extended the lead to 17-7 with a 35-yard field goal.

Matt Grothe brought the Bulls to within 17-14 in the third quarter when he scored on a keeper from the one-yard-line but Lee gave the panthers some breathing room with his second field goal of the game early in the fourth.

Grothe wasn’t going to just let his team fall at home though and he gave the Bulls their first lead since the opening quarter when he hit Jessie Hester on a 22-yard touchdown pass but Pittsburgh quickly answered with a three-play, 60-yard drive that was capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by McCoy.

Pittsburgh’s defense then stepped up and forced the Bulls to punt on their next possession and then left them with a hail-mary on their final possession that was batted down atteh goal line.

Pittsburgh will take on Navy on Oct. 18 while South Florida faces Syracuse.
