Narconon Graduate’s Advice For Families Dealing With Addiction

Holidays are a time for family, not addiction, says one recovered addict.

Oklahoma - One devastating part of addiction is how it rips families apart during the holidays. Holiday dinners, presents under the tree and happy moments can vanish for those hooked on drugs. Jason, a now recovered addict, remembers this time and the toll it took on his loved ones and sends a message out to help those with family members who are addicted to drugs.

In a recent interview Jason remembers his life as an addict. Some of one of the most difficult times for his family, while he was addicted was during the holidays. “The holidays were especially hard due to the fact that I was embarrassed to be around my family because of how I looked and what my life had become,” says Jason. “My family had tried to help me get off drugs numerous times before but I had always failed. They still wanted the best for me and allowed me to be around them but it was very difficult seeing the disappointment and sadness in their eyes.”

Jason, who struggled with heroin addiction for many years, went to four different rehabilitation programs without success. He finally ended up going into the Narconon drug rehabilitation program and has now overcome his addiction, celebrating a year and a half of sobriety.

Each year several hundred thousand add to the over 22 million people addicted to drugs in the United States. The holidays can be an very stressful time for an addict as this is the time when they are supposed to be celebrating the joy and happiness of the season with family but instead are isolated, lonely and depressed as a result of addiction. These negative feelings only cause them to use more drugs during the holiday season.

My advice to families who have a loved one that is addicted is during the holidays is to love whoever is struggling with addiction as much as they can by getting them help,” says Jason. “There are answers and solutions and Narconon has them. I applied what I learned there to everyday living.  I no longer dread each day and am happy, healthy, productive, successful and enjoy life again; something I thought was never ever possible before Narconon.”

“The holidays are for families, not addiction,” Jason adds. “And now, because of Narconon, my family can enjoy the holidays with me again.”
