Kimbo Slice Takes on Ken Shamrock in EliteXC Saturday Night Fights
Kimbo Slice will battle Ken Shamrock in an EliteXC Saturday Night Fights MMA bout at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL on CBS at 9 p.m. ET.
Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, has become a national phenomenon after rising to fame after videos of his fights became viral on YouTube, while Shamrock is one of mixed martial arts' most legendary and time-honored fighters. Shamrock is one of five men in Ultimate Fighting Championship's Hall of Fame.
"Where I'm at in this stage of my career, this is probably the biggest fight in my life since I started fighting," Shamrock said in a press conference Wednesday. "This is the biggest because I'm at the stage of my career where it's put up or shut up."
"And you know, Kimbo is at that same stage," continued Shamrock. "Put up or shut up. I am absolutely taking it as an insult if anyone thinks I am going to be a sacrificial lamb. I will shut everybody up on Saturday night. I am going to smash it back in their face."
Slice (3-0) is still just a beginner to the sport of MMA, defeating Bo Cantrell, David "Tank" Abbott and James "Colossus" Thompson, all in less than a year. In his debut, he defeated Cantrell 19 seconds into the first round due to submission.
Shamrock (26-13-2) is a seasoned veteran, but has lost his last five fights in a row and seven of his last eight and hasn't won a fight in more than four years. His last win was in June 2004 against Kimo Leopoldo.
The winner of the Kimbo Slice-Ken Shamrock EliteXC bout will take on Brett Rogers.
