J.J. Hardy was 3-4 with an RBI, Jason Kendall was 2-4 with an RBI, Dave Bush pitched 5 1/3 inning allowing one run and the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen tossed shutout ball the rest of the way to earn a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night to pull to within 2-1 in their best-of-five NLDS playoff series.
The Brewers took advantage of a shaky Jamie Moyer in the first inning, drawing a pair of walks to start the bottom half of the frame and after Prince Fielder brought Mike Cameron home with a sacrifice fly Hardy followed with a two-out single to plate Bill Hall for a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth the Brewers extended their lead to 3-0 on a Ryan Braun sacrifice that scored Cameron but the Phillies finally got to Bush in the sixth as Jayson Werth scored on a Ryan Howard groundout but that would be the only run they would get as the Brewers bullpen shut the door the rest of the way.
The series will remain in Milwaukee and pick up on Sunday with Jeff Suppan facing Philadelphia’s Joe Blanton. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. ET.
