Pat Burrell went 3-4 with a pair of homeruns and four RBIs, Jimmy Rollins was 2-4 with a solo homerun and Joe Blanton threw six strong innings allowing one run as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 on Sunday to take their best-of-five NLDS playoff series and advance to the NLCS where they will face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rollins got things started for the Phillies in the first inning with a leadoff blast off Brewers starter Jeff Suppan and that lead was extended in the third when Burrell hit a three-run bomb and Jayson Werth followed with a solo homer to put Milwaukee in a 5-0 hole.
Blanton kept the Brewers hitters off balance throughout the first six innings as he struck out seven before being replaced in the seventh after giving up a long homerun to Prince Fielder. Ryan Madson came on to retire the side.
Burrell got the run back for the Phillies in the top of the eighth with his second homer, this one off Guillermo Mota for a 6-1 advantage. In the bottom half of the frame Milwaukee pulled to within 6-2 on a Ryan Braun RBI single but Madson got out of the inning, setting the stage for Brad Lidge in the ninth and he shut the door on the Brewers.
Philadelphia will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.
