Peyton Manning threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, Reggie Wayne had 97 yards receiving and a TD, and the Indianapolis Colts (2-2) overcame a 17-point deficit with four minutes left in the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Texans (0-4) 31-27 on Sunday.
The Colts jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter with a 46-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri and a one-yard touchdown run from Joseph Addai but the Texans stormed back in the second quarter with a touchdown from Steve Slaton, a field goal from Kris Brown and a five-yard touchdown pass from Sage Rosenfels to Andre Johnson and Houston was up 17-10 at the break.
Houston extended their lead to 20-10 in the third quarter on Brown’s second field goal and when Slaton scored his second TD of the game in the fourth quarter the Texans were up 27-10 and looking like they would have the upset.
Unfortunately for them Manning got started and led the Colts back from almost certain defeat, hitting Tom Santi on a 7-yard touchdown pass with 4:04 left on the clock. Rosenfels then fumbled on the Texans next possession and Gary Brackett scooped up the loose ball and went 68 yards for the touchdown to pull the Colts to within 27-24 with 3:36 remaining.
Rosenfels then fumbled on the Texans next possession and after the Colts recovered Manning put the Colts in the endzone with a 5-yard toss to Wayne for the 31-27 lead. Rosenfells capped off a terrible three-series run with an interception to end the game.
