Kurdish Rebels Said to be Holding Two Turkish Soldiers

Kurdish rebels belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have claimed they are holding two Turkish soldiers following last Friday’s deadly attack on a military position near the town of Semdinli along the Iraqi border.

 

In that attack Turkish officials announced 15 soldiers had been killed while another 20 were wounded and two were missing, the condition of the two missing is not known. At least 23 PKK rebels were said to be killed in the attack.

 

A PKK spokesman confirmed to Reuters news agency that they were in possession of two Turkish soldiers but did not confirm if they were dead or alive.

 

On Monday Turkey bombed several suspected PKK positions in northern Iraq.
