Kyrgyzstan Hit by Major Earthquake, at least 65 Killed

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake rocked the southern province of Osh in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, killing at least 65 people, leveling more than 100 buildings and homes and leaving rescue workers to search through rubble for victims.

 

The remote area in which the temblor struck has made it difficult for more search teams to arrive. According to reports the village of Nura has been completely destroyed..

 

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has announced his country would provide humanitarian assistance for Kyrgyzstan.
