The Boston Red Sox will try for the second day in a row to eliminate the Los Angeles Angels after dropping a 12-inning game on Sunday 5-4. Boston jumped to a 2-0 series lead after taking both games in Tampa and looked to finish the best-of-five ALDS series off on Sunday but Josh Beckett wasn’t his typical playoff self and the Angels got a strong start from Joe Saunders and great work from their bullpen to avoid the sweep.
Boston will send Game One-winner Jon Lester (16-6 3.21ERA) to the hill on Monday night. The left tossed seven innings and allowed one run while striking out seven in the series opener. He has won five of his last six decisions and been a big game pitcher for the Red Sox down the stretch. The Red Sox would love to finish the series at home but they are facing an Angels club that posted the best road record in the Major Leagues this year at 50-31.
The Angels will also send out their Game One starter as John Lackey (12-5 3.75 ERA) looks to avenge his opening loss. Lackey had a bit of bad fortune in Game One as the Los Angeles bats didn’t help him any and his only real mistake resulted in a 2-run homer from Jason Bay that proved to be the difference.
First pitch for Game Four is scheduled to be delivered at 8:37 p.m. ET.
