Narconon Asks: Is Your Loved One Using Heroin?

Residential drug rehab program lists signs and symptoms for heroin addiction.

Heroin addiction is a nightmare for anyone who has been unlucky enough to be in its path. The drug, which gives users a euphoric high, is often followed by torturous physical withdrawal that can feel worse than a case of the flu. Addicts will do whatever is necessary to avoid feeling these effects from the drug having to take the drug just to keep from being sick.

Narconon, a residential drug rehabilitation program, explains that there are some telltale signs that someone is using heroin. Among those are: loss of interest, lack of hygiene, poor appearance, unexplained absences from work, school and other commitments and little or no motivation.  In addition, some physical signs that someone may be under the influence of heroin include, heavy extremities, drowsiness, dry mouth, heavy extremities feeling alternately wakeful and then drowsy, appearing disoriented, as well as having constricted pupils and feeling nauseated.

Heroin addiction is tough because all the addict is thinking about it how they will get the drugs again and how they will get money for more drugs,” says Derry Hallmark, CCDC and Senior Director for Expansion for Narconon Arrowhead. “It can seem like an unending cycle, a downward spiral but with the right type of treatment, it can be fully overcome.”

Narconon has been successfully treating heroin addicts since the 1960s. In fact the founder of the program, William Benitez, discovered a solution to his own heroin addiction through the technology offered through Narconon for the last 46 years. The program achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety with heroin addicts as well as all hardcore addictions.

“Knowing the signs and symptoms of heroin addiction is the key to getting someone help,” adds Hallmark. “But treatment is the key to really making sure they can overcome the addiction.”

According to statistics, over 3.8 million people say they have tried heroin at least once in their lifetimes. Narconon can provide a real solution for those struggling with heroin addiction.
