Attack on Somali Market Leaves at least 20 Dead in Mogadishu

At least 20 shoppers were killed and several more left injured after a busy market in the Somalia’s capital city Mogadishu was struck by mortar shells.

According to witnesses the first mortar shell killed two people and when people rushed to the scene to help a second mortar landed and killed another 13 people. There were also reports of mortar fire hitting homes in the area accounting for further deaths.

Islamist insurgents are being blamed for the attack.
