Skylar Deleon, Former "Power Ranger," Begins Murder Trial Tuesday

Skylar Deleon, a former actor on the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," began his trial Tuesday for the murder of a couple on a yacht.

Deleon, 29, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and murder for financial gain. He allegedly murdered a couple at sea to steal their yacht,

Prosecutors have said that they will seek the death penalty against Deleon for the 2004 murders of Jackie and Thomas Hawks of Prescott, Ariz.

Alonso Machain, Myron Gardner and John Fitzgerald Kennedy have also been charged with murder and murder for financial gain but have yet to stand trial. They also pleaded not guilty.

Deleon showed interest in purchasing the $440,000 yacht, then got Machain and Kennedy in an attempt to force the Hawks couple to sign over ownership of the yacht.

During a test cruise on the boat, Deleon reportedly chained the couple to anchors and tossed them overboard while they were alive. They are presumed to have drowned. Their bodies have not been found.

Deleon's ex-wife Jennifer Henderson was convicted in 2006 of two counts of first-degree murder and murder for financial gain and sentenced to two terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Deleon and Henderson, who were married then, are suspected of bleaching the yacht after the killings and bribing a notary to backdate paperwork to transfer ownership of the boat.

The jury will also consider a separate murder charge filed against Deleon in the killing of a man he met in a work furlough program in 2003 while serving time for burglary. Prosecutors suspect Deleon took $50,000 from the man then slit his throat and dumped his body in Mexico. Deleon also pleaded not guilty to that charge.

In a third case to be tried separately, Deleon is charged with soliciting the killings of his father and cousin after believing that they had information about his alleged role in the crimes. His cousin is expected to testify at the current trial.

In July, Deleon tried to saw his penis off with a razor blade. He was hospitalized after trying to cut off his own penis in a mental ward.

His penis was reattached and he was returned to jail the next day. Deleon was in a mental health ward at the jail in Santa Ana.

According to IMDB, his non-speaking role in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" is his only acting experience.
