The Boston Red Sox have announced Daisuke Matsuzaka (18-3 2.90 ERA) will start Game One of their ALCS matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
Matsuzaka pitched five innings and picked up the win in last Friday’s Game Two win in the Red Sox 7-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS and will be looked upon to go a bit deeper when he faces the Rays but in his three starts against Tamp this year he hasn’t gone beyond that mark. In those three starts he earned a win in his only decision.
The Red Sox will follow Matsuzaka with Josh Beckett in Game Two and when the series shifts to Boston they will go with Jon Lester in Game Three and Tim Wakefield in Game Four.
Tampa will go with James Shields in Game One and Scott Kazmir in Game Two. Matt Garza will take the hill in Game Three with Andy Sonnanstine getting the start in Game Four.
Game One is set for Friday with the first pitch being delivered at 8:37 p.m. ET.
